5 Free “At-Home” Spa Treatments (for Valentine’s Day!)

So put your phone on silent, throw on your softest robe and unwind to your favorite playlist. Because our experts are showing you 5 simple ways to create a perfect relaxation sanctuary in the privacy of your own home.

 

Treatment #1. Renewing Hand Mask

This rejuvenating lemon sugar hand mask uses everyday ingredients found around the house. It’s super simple and will leave your hands looking, feeling (and smelling) great.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 part olive oil
  • 2 parts sugar
  • Juice from ½ a lemon + zest

Instructions:

Mix all of the ingredients together and rub over the tops and bottoms of your hands. Leave the treatment on for 10 minutes before rinsing off and applying your favorite moisturizer. Olive oil is rich in Vitamin E making it extremely moisturizing and easily absorbed. Sugar is a natural exfoliator for your skin and is used in many face and body scrubs. Lemons are packed with Vitamin C and antioxidants which keep your skin smooth and healthy.

Tip:

*Use this scrub on your feet as well to make your tootsies baby soft.

 

Treatment#2. Healing Lip Scrub

A homemade lip scrub is a great way to heal and soften dry, chapped lips- especially during these cold, winter months. 

What you’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil- nourish
  • 1 tbsp organic honey- healing
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar- exfoliate
  • Splash of water 

Instructions:

Mix all the ingredients together and massage onto your lips in a gentle circular motion. The olive oil and honey nourishes and heals your lips while the brown sugar sloughs off dry, dead skin. Your lips will be soft, hydrated and ready for Spring!

 

Treatment #3. Nourishing Face Mask

It’s just not a spa day without an ultra-healing, pastel colored concoction slathered across your face. You can actually feel the stress melting away as you sit back and relax with this must have mask.

What you’ll need:

  • ½ avocado
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 handful of oats

Instructions:

Mix the ingredients together and apply generously to your face avoiding your eyes and mouth. The natural oils and healthy fats in avocados keep your skin soft and silky smooth while honey is a natural humectant, which helps your skin retain the moisture. Oats have a calming, soothing effect on the skin and act as an anti-inflammatory. Leave your mask on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse your face to reveal smooth, radiant looking skin.

Tip:

*Add a few hydrating cucumber slices over your eyes to fulfill the ultimate spa-day look.

 

Treatment #4. Hydrating Milk Bath

It’s been said that Cleopatra—famous for her beautiful skin— was a big fan of milk baths so it’s no wonder they’re making a comeback. Milk baths are great for calming irritated skin and are highly moisturizing giving you soft supple skin that lasts. Adding a few extras like essential oils can turn your ordinary bath into a luxurious spa experience. 

What you’ll need:

  • 4 cups whole milk
  • A few drops of lavender oil
  • ½ cup honey 

Instructions:

While running your bath water, add a few drops of lavender oil and honey. The honey nourishes and soothes your skin, and the lavender oil smells amazing. Milk contains lactic acid which exfoliates the skin and sloughs off dead cells leaving your skin feeling super soft.

Tip:

*Don’t forget to take a quick rinse after.

 

Treatment #5. Aromatherapy Candles

These DIY aromatherapy candles will make your room smell amazing as well as provide the ultimate ambiance for relaxation.

What you’ll need:

  • Votive candles
  • Essential oil
  • Fire

Instructions:

Light the votives, after the wax has started to melt and liquify, add a few drops of essential oil. This will allow the candles to take on the healing scents of the oils allowing you to fully experience the benefits of aromatherapy. Not sure which oils to use? Essential oils containing lavender, eucalyptus, rose and sandalwood all have calming effects that can reduce stress and anxiety, and promote better sleep.
